Hi there

Thanks for visiting! My name is Kyle Taylor, and I’m the writer/sailor behind Seafarer Craft. I grew up on the shores of Lake Erie, outside of Buffalo, NY, where I currently live on our 4th-generation homestead. Sailing has been a massive part of my life, and I have worked as a professional boat captain since 2014. I currently work for the Sailing Collective, where we provide luxury sailing charters and instruction from the Caribbean to Mediterranean, to more far-flung places like French Polynesia, Thailand, and Madagascar.

As I see it, the idea of craft is of participation. There is a common language of handwork, and with tying knots there are so many different opportunities to express yourself as an individual artist. There are knotwork traditions from all around the world, and I find the possibilities of using rope and knotwork fascinating. Making things is one of those beautiful, often surprising common threads that connects us all.

If you’d like to book me for a speaking event, custom project, or just say hi, please don’t hesitate to reach out at the banner at the bottom of this page!
